One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
jo jo joonee aaio teh teh urajhaio maanas janam sa(n)jog paiaa ||
Whoever is born into the world, is entangled in it; human birth is obtained only by good destiny.
taakee hai oT saadh raakhahu dhe kar haath kar kirapaa melahu har raiaa ||1||
I look to Your support, O Holy Saint; give me Your hand, and protect me. By Your Grace, let me meet the Lord, my King. ||1||
anik janam bhram thit nahee paiee ||
I wandered through countless incarnations, but I did not find stability anywhere.
karau sevaa gur laagau charan govi(n)dh jee kaa maarag dheh jee bataiee ||1|| rahaau ||
I serve the Guru, and I fall at His feet, praying, ""O Dear Lord of the Universe, please, show me the way.""||1||Pause||
anik upaav karau maiaa kau bachit dharau meree meree karat sadh hee vihaavai ||
I have tried so many things to acquire the wealth of Maya, and to cherish it in my mind; I have passed my life constantly crying out, ""Mine, mine!""
koiee aaiso re bheTai sa(n)t meree laahai sagal chi(n)t Thaakur siau meraa ra(n)g laavai ||2||
Is there any such Saint, who would meet with me, take away my anxiety, and lead me to enshrine love for my Lord and Master. ||2||
paRe re sagal bedh neh chookai man bhedh ik khin na dheereh mere ghar ke pa(n)chaa ||
I have read all the Vedas, and yet the sense of separation in my mind still has not been removed; the five thieves of my house are not quieted, even for an instant.
koiee aaiso re bhagatu ju maiaa te rahat ik a(n)mirat naam merai ridhai si(n)chaa ||3||
Is there any devotee, who is unattached to Maya, who may irrigate my mind with the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the One Lord? ||3||
jete re teerath naae aha(n)budh mail laae ghar ko Thaakur ik til na maanai ||
In spite of the many places of pilgrimage for people to bathe in, their minds are still stained by their stubborn ego; the Lord Master is not pleased by this at all.
kadh paavau saadhasa(n)g har har sadhaa aana(n)dh giaan a(n)jan meraa man isanaanai ||4||
When will I find the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy? There, I shall be always in the ecstasy of the Lord, Har, Har, and my mind shall take its cleansing bath in the healing ointment of spiritual wisdom. ||4||
sagal asram keene manooaa neh pateene bibekaheen dhehee dhoe ||
I have followed the four stages of life, but my mind is not satisfied; I wash my body, but it is totally lacking in understanding.
koiee paieeaai re purakh bidhaataa paarabraham kai ra(n)g raataa mere man kee dhuramat mal khoe ||5||
If only I could meet some devotee of the Supreme Lord God, imbued with the Lord's Love, who could eradicate the filthy evil-mindedness from my mind. ||5||
One who is attached to religious rituals, does not love the Lord, even for an instant; he is filled with pride, and he is of no account.
jis bheTeeaai safal moorat karai sadhaa keerat gur parasaadh kouoo netrahu pekhai ||6||
One who meets with the rewarding personality of the Guru, continually sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. By Guru's Grace, such a rare one beholds the Lord with his eyes. ||6||
manahaTh jo kamaavai til na lekhai paavai bagul jiau dhiaan laavai maiaa re dhaaree ||
One who acts through stubbornness is of no account at all; like a crane, he pretends to meditate, but he is still stuck in Maya.

Is there any such Giver of peace, who can recite to me the sermon of God? Meeting him, I would be emancipated. ||7||
suprasa(n)n gopaal rai kaaTai re ba(n)dhan mai gur kai sabadh meraa man raataa ||
When the Lord, my King, is totally pleased with me, He will break the bonds of Maya for me; my mind is imbued with the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

End of the Hukamnama
Past seven days
What is a Hukamnama?
Each morning at Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar, after Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is opened with prayer, the Granthi reads the shabad at the top of the left page the Guru opens to. That shabad is the Hukamnama, the Guru's order for the day. The word joins hukam, an order, and nama, a letter.
It is taken once and shared everywhere, so a Sikh in Amritsar and one in California read the same shabad that day. Many Sikhs read it after their morning Nitnem, or listen to it on the way to work, and carry a line of it through the day.
This page shows the day's Hukamnama in Gurmukhi with a transliteration and English translation, and the recording of it when one is available. The Simran app brings it to your phone each morning, with the lock screen widget showing the first line where you will see it first.
Frequently asked questions
What time is the Hukamnama taken?
It is taken at Sri Harmandir Sahib early in the morning, India time, and appears here soon after. India is twelve and a half hours ahead of California and five and a half hours ahead of London, so by the clock in North America the new Hukamnama usually arrives the evening before.
Why does the date look a day ahead of mine?
The date is the day in Amritsar, where the Hukamnama is taken. When it is Tuesday morning there it is still Monday evening in most of the Americas.
Can I read an earlier Hukamnama?
The past seven days are listed above. Each opens that day's full shabad in Gurmukhi with transliteration and English.
How do I get the Hukamnama on my lock screen?
The Simran app has a Daily Hukamnama widget for the lock screen on iPhone and Android. Add it once and the day's shabad is there each morning. The lock screen widget page walks through the setup.
